On Safari With Gert and Robbie with the Wharton University Group 5 March 2016

5 March 2016

We departed early for our morning Game Drive, amid slightly overcast conditions and a beautiful morning it was as the sunrise turned he clouds various shades of pink and orange!

Our first highlight of the morning came when we found 6 young Spotted Hyenas, about 5 months old, running down the road between den sites! They were quite skittish though and continued straight into the den and out of sight as soon as they got there.

Shortly after that we encountered a large herd of buffalo, a good few hundred strong, on both sides of the road and crossing. It was a mixed herd consisting of large males, many females and a high number of very young calves. We also encountered a high number of Elephant Bulls, some solitary, others walking together and in one instance also found a White Rhino in close proximity to some of the bull Elephant.

One of the other highlights of the morning was finding a pair of Lions, male and female, rather lazy, but lying only about 20 meters off the road. Even though they were hiding in the shade, the male had his head up for the most part and looked in our direction often enough to get a few shots and some good views!

After a stop at a nearby viewpoint, it was time to return to camp for a late breakfast and some relaxing time during which the pool proved quite popular, as the day had warmed up significantly by now.

In the afternoon we visited a couple of waterholes, where sightings was dominated by elephant, as we found 2 breeding herds and a variety of males near the herds. We also found the first Hippos of the tour and a good variety of water birds, including Saddle-billed, Wooly-necked and Black Storks! Other birds we found during the course of the day, worth a mention, was a family of Southern Ground-Hornbill as well as a Secretary Bird on the prowl for unsuspecting prey.

All in all a good variety of sightings and a very successful day!

On Safari With Curtis 9 October 2015

9 October 2015

The final morning of this tour and it turned out to be a relatively quiet drive compared to the previous days

Our highlight was finding giraffes grouped together, we were fortunate enough to creep up to a large bull, made even larger as he stood on a slope and we were on the bottom of a hill. We sat with him for twenty minutes just watching as he stripped bare a small Apple leaf tree of all its leaves.

With us being the only vehicle and with the engine off we could even hear the munching as he ground down the leaves.

We also had final sightings of buffalo, Impala, kudu, waterbuck, zebra and dwarf mongoose before we left the park.

Then it was time to say goodbye to Oriah and Erez who return home soon. Great meeting you guys and hope to see you again on safari one day.

On Safari With Curtis 21 September 2015

21 September 2015

Another great morning as we found wild dogs and hyena in close proximity again.

Also, after being found by Gert we had a lovely sighting of three cheetah brothers very close to the road.

But I think the highlight was of two adult white rhino which we found and then watched as they crossed over the road just ten meters in front of us.

Throughout the day we also saw bushbuck, steenbok, common duiker, three lovely bull sable, baboons, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, waterbuck, kudu, zebra, giraffe, common reedbuck and Impala.

Birds seen were saddle billed stork, grey heron, pied kingfisher, blacksmith lapwing, white backed vulture, Egyptian geese, African fish eagle and African darter.

On Safari With Curtis 30 April 2015

30 April 2015

The last day of this particular tour and we set off on our final drive.

This morning we found a large family herd of elephants,  about twenty in total and we watched as they walked past us in a continuous line.

Other animals seen were impala, kudu, buffalo, waterbuck, klipspringer and hippo.

Then time to bid farewell to Casey, Dana and Enoch who are off home. Travel safely and hope you enjoy all the memories of the last three days.

On Safari With Robbie 20-21 April 2015

20 April 2015

Todays highlight came with the combination of two aspects!

One being a beautiful mammal and two being the scenery surrounding the sighting!

We came across a breeding herd of 50 Elephant just as the overcast skies of the past 3 days cleared and made for a crisp , clear and dramatic blue sky combined with the Autumn mixed coloration of the surrounding vegetation!

Colours of green , grey , yellow , silver and purple were seen at a sighting which amongst the 3 aspiring guests became their 'safari highlight' !!!

General game was great as well as Buffalo and W.rhino!

In the early morning mist we also came across the wild dog pack of our first day as well as a magnificent clan of Spotted Hyenas!

A superb day again!

21 April 2015

Our last short morning drive was full of general game and great sightings of Elephant bulls!

Mark , Kate and Amanda left for Cape Town with "we will be back" written all over their faces!!!
