On Safari With Mark 17/18 June 2015

17 June 2015

I collected our guests in Nelspruit and headed down to Kruger. As time was limited we did a short game drive around the area finding fabulous general game: Impala, kudu, warthog, common duiker, steenbok, vervet monkeys and hippos.

18 June 2015

This was another kettle of fish - to much to report, however the highlights must be the female leopard stalking Impala literally 5m from our car. In the end she was spotted and the Impala moved off and so did she.

Following highlight was when we spotted 8 lions at a waterhole that had just caught a buffalo, while feeding on it the one massive male got up and moved around the gwari bushes and proceeded to mate with a female. In all the time in Kruger I have never seen that. Usually very little is eaten in the mating period.

Other animals: giraffe, kudu, waterbuck, Nyla's, bushbuck, steenbok, duikers, blue wildebeest, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, elephant, rhinos, a herd of 600 buffalo, mating honey badgers, mating Kori bustards.

Fantastic trip so far.

We set out in icy conditions where very little was seen then the day literally heated up!!!

In total 3 lion sightings, 2 Buffalo herd sightings, 6 Rhino sightings. Numerous elephant sightings and a pair of Hyena pups!!!

Highlight of the day for our two enthusiastic young backpacker's were the 2 Crocodiles they were so keen to tick off on their world sightings list and this was done at 12pm today!!!!

Shows one is always looking for something different!!!

Many species of general game and birds were also seen today!!

On Safari with Robbie 17 June 2015

17 June 2015

Today we started with a short drive before camp checking.

We saw beautiful elephant as well as a rather strange sighting where a solitary Buffalo arrived out of the blue and lay down next to a pod of sleeping Hippo!

However the highlight was the sightings of leopard, Rhino and Buffalo on the sundowner drive, which was conducted in sub zero, wind chill factors!!!!

Other species seen were Impala, Kudu, Zebra and Waterbuck!!!

On Safari With Curtis 10 June 2015

 10 June 2015

Yesterdays drives rewarded us with plenty of species but we lacked any of the larger carnivores and so we set out this morning hoping to change that.

We didn't have long to wait as just three kilometers after entering the gate we found a cheetah taking a stroll along the road. We were then even more delighted when a second male came out of the tall grass to join his friend.

We followed the pair for a couple of kilometers before they ran into the bush. A great start for the day.

Our second highlight turned up later on. We had been responding to a leopard sighting which unfortunately had moved away by the time we showed. We spent a few minutes but with no luck, but after accepting defeat we drove off only too find two lionesses, just a few hundred meters, further down the road.

The sighting didn't last too long  but it's always a guests favorite seeing this formidable predator.

During the day we also had more new species to add to our ever growing list including waterbuck, hyena, leopard and slender mongoose as well as seeing more white rhino, loads of elephants, cape buffalo, giraffe, warthog, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, impala, common duiker, steenbok, hippo and crocodile.

Birds included white backed vultures, crested barbets,  grey heron, southern ground hornbills many more.
