On Safari With Curtis 12 August 2015

12 August 2015

Yet another cold and overcast morning but at least the rain only fell overnight!!!

Todays highlight was most definitely the lion sighting we had.

Found by another guide we got to the location to find a few vultures skulking around in the dry river bed.

As we rolled forward we found a lioness protecting the remains of a kill (a kudu kill to be precise) thinking it was just one lioness we were surprised to see a second lioness suddenly appear and chase away the ever encroaching vultures.

As vehicles came and went we were able to roll further forward and found three more very full gals.

More and more vultures turned up but they were having no luck, yet, as these lionesses were not finished.

Another highlight was seeing a kori bustard down in this part of the park. More often seen further north it was a pleasant surprise.

Also seen white rhino, elephants, Cape buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, baboon, vervets, warthog, giraffe, steenbok, Nyala, Impala, dwarf mongoose, kudu, waterbuck and crocodile.

Birds included crested francolin, blacksmith lapwing, grey heron, African jacana, African fish eagle and water thick knee.
