The Definition of a Crush of Rhino's

Update on free roaming (running) rhinos at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary.
A group of rhinos is call a crash, and rightfully so. When you have a crash of rhinos running through the bush, you will know it, hear it and feel it as the earth trembles under your feet. At Care for Wild, the orphaned rhinos that are rescued go through a process of rehabilitation to prepare them for their future reintroduction back into the wild. And that future is happening now. The rhinos are introduced to a large nature reserve where they are kept safe by our rhino monitors and Anti-Poaching Units. An Intensive Protection Zone forms part of the reserve as a Rhino Stronghold where the orphaned rhinos roam and run freely. We would like to thank all of our loyal and generous sponsors helping us #rescue #rehabilitate #release and #protect these orphaned rhinos over the years. #careforwildrhinosanctuary #crash #rhino #crashofrhinos#conservation #wildlife #stoppoaching #endwildlifecrime#savetherhino #savethisrhino #wildandfree #safaris_into_kruger #nhongosafaris @natgeoau @natgeo @babyrhinorescueorg @konicaminoltasa @tracn4 @marcvanpelt_sa @swaindest @investec @in_trin_sic_insta @spiritwildlifefund @elevate_brand @klooftique @africanconservation @peace_4animals @councilofcontributors @onelandloveit @kp24 @mattwright @graemesmith49 @thisfilmstudio @Nhongosafaris

On Safari With Gert From 2 July 2016

2 July 2016

After an early breakfast, we set out for our morning game drive in cold and windy conditions, not the best game viewing weather.

However, a pleasant surprise lay in store as we were lucky very early on, spotting a lioness on the slope of a rocky outcrop, making herself comfortable in a sunny spot and enjoying a grooming session. She looked like she might have been in a fight as she had an injured left eye. We watched until she decided to move further up the rocks and disappeared in the tall grass, a great start!

We then had 2 separate Spotted Hyena sightings, both on the move close to their den-sites.

We also had 2 great Elephant sightings; the first a small breeding herd on the move crossing the road close to us, the second an almost fully grown male leisurely feeding next to the road!

We were also lucky enough to find a beautiful herd of Sable Antelope with an adult bull and about 15 females and young, very relaxed and close to the road - great to get such a quality sighting of these rare and magnificent creatures!

One of the highlights of the morning was a large female White Rhino with a young calf of about 4 weeks old! This was a fairly quick sighting as they were a bit nervous and decided to keep to the thicket, but always good to see!

We ended the day with a very large Buffalo herd, at least 200 strong, shortly before retuning to camp - a very successful day considering the conditions!

3 July 2016

After an early breakfast and loading luggage, we set off on our final morning drive. It was still very cold, windy and overcast, hence everything we found were hiding in the thickets. About halfway through our drive the sun started coming through, something we were looking forward to as that could lead to more animal activity after the cold days.

We were not disappointed as we encountered a large male White Rhino on the move and he trotted across the road in front of us!

A little further on we found a small pride of 6 lions, with 2 adult females, a sub-adult male and 3 cubs of about 6 months old. At first we could only see them vaguely, under a bush in tall grass, but starting to move around. Eventually they were all up and on the move, looking like they might be on the hunt. The 2 adults crossed the road, but eventually crossed back as the youngsters were a bit nervous because of the vehicles building up. They kept calling each other to keep track of their movements and we got some very nice views as they then walked parallel to the road for a while.

We left them in peace as it was time to get out of the park - a very special sighting to end the tour on a high note!

On Safari With Mark 13 -14 January 2016

13 January 2016

After collecting our clients it was off for my first safari for the year.

Not 100 meters down the road and we were greeted with a beautiful herd of Elephant that walk straight over the road in front of us. Brilliant photos of all plus the little guy that could hardly walk and stumbled over his own feet as though he didn't know what they were used for.

On route to our camp we came across many different animals with one highlight been the SableBull that crossed over as though he was ordered to show up and give the guests a Epic view of what has to be one of the most majestic animals Kruger has to offer.

14 January 2016

We set out north to show my guests a different landscape and while doing so we had some spectacular sightings.

One highlight was a pride of lions eating a buffalo and the interaction between all at the kill was something special to watch.

Our following highlight was the leopard we saw stalking warthog. However unsuccessful it was still good to see this fantastic animal in action.

Guests have loved all the sightings so far and can't believe that there is so much time still left to just enhance on the current achievements.

Let's see what tomorrow holds.

On Safari With Mark, Gert, Amanda and Shannon (Bridal Party)

8 December 2015

All 3 safari cars lined up to go on safari and show our group wonderful African animals in the bush. This was a unique safari as all of our wonderful guests have one thing in common "the Bride and Groom". What a pleasure to have all these Canadians on board with us.

It's off to Skukuza we go. Highlight for the drive towards camp was the herd of buffalo we spotted and stayed with them till they moved across the road right in front of us, a lone elephant bull right on the road eating approximately 3m from the car, white rhino 5m from the car, it had to be a power afternoon and heard many guests asking the respective guides if it was normal to see so much or were we just lucky.

9 December 2015

This morning we were up for an early morning drive before having breakfast.

The highlight for this drive had to be the pack of wild dogs that were spotted on the road. After following them for approximately 20min it was time for breakfast and depart for Satara Camp.

Our highlight had to be the 3 lions lying under an acacia tree just chilling waiting for the heat of the day to break. As temperatures got to 44 Degrees, it was time for the guests to get into a swimming pool in camp and cool down.

The night drive highlights had to be the 2 lions walking down the road eventually moving off into the bush looking as though they had lost the rest of the pride.

10 December 2015

A new morning a new start, an onto Olifants camp for breakfast.

On our drive north, we stopped to watch a herd of elephants approach the road and all of a sudden out popped 2 cheetah onto the road approx 50m ahead of us. Both these males went along their daily activities with scent marking their territories.

Great photos could be taken and on with the drive where the next highlight was the little honey badger that to was busy with his early morning activities. After watching this for a while we stopped of at one of the very few waterholes on route and found 2 black manned lions lying enjoying the cool morning breeze combined with the sunrise only offered by an African sun.

All sightings have been special and the entire group has enjoyed themselves with been able to see so much in literally 2.5 days. We wait in anticipation to see what's in store for us for the remainder of the tour.

On safari With Curtis 5 – 6 October 2015

5 – 6 October 2015

This tour we were joined by Hosea and Pilar for a very quick one night safari. That had been fortunate enough to have spent the last week in Chobe and so had seen many great sightings.

The one thing they really wanted to see was Rhino as they had missed that in Botswana.

We made up with that as we found several sightings of rhino, the best being our first sighting as we found three white rhino grazing right next to the road. We enjoyed them as they carried on moving towards us, crossed the road and then continued to eat.

We also were spoiled as we also had two lion sightings, two leopard sighting, buffalo, elephants, waterbuck, kudu, warthog, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, crocodile, vervets, baboon, Impala, steenbok, common duiker, sable, bushbuck and African wild dog.

A short but sweet couple of days before we said farewell to Hosea and Pilar whose next leg of their African adventure is the lovely island of Zanzibar. Great meeting you guys and travel safe!!!
