On Safari With Robbie From 8 September 2014

8 September 2014

Today we arrived at camp to hear the sad news of  two of the Wild Dog pups seen on our last trip had been taken out by lions. Putting the bad news behind us we set out on our afternoon drive and picking up superb visuals of elephant males, rhino and a beautiful group of older buffalo bulls approaching us whilst the sun set behind them!

9 September 2014

Today we set out with excited anticipation only to see that due to excessive mist our visibility was only 10m into the bush! After a hour of “No animals in the mist” , I decided to completely change direction and within 45 minutes we broke through the mist into sunlight which on route brought us great sightings of Elephant herds, rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, impala, kudu, vervet monkeys, baboons and 28 bird species.

By 10am temperatures had risen to 33 degrees! The guests asked me to sing once another guide told them my name (Robbie Williams)….. I said “once we see the big 5!”

Lone behold within an hour I was singing “feel” by Robbie Williams!! As we picked up lions and a magnificent male leopard which crossed the Sabi River low level bridge.

The afternoon drive involved a slow exploration of beautiful koppies around camp where we picked up a herd of over 200 buffalo and some hyena.

It had turned out to be one superb day!

10 September 2014

Today we set off at the crack of dawn and a call came through on the radio and we were soon on the way to a pride of lions but to our disappointment we just missed them!! However on the way there we go excellent visuals of rhino, elephant, a huge buffalo herd and a mobile herd of zebra.

With temperatures reaching 30 degrees we were delighted to come across a lion pride of 11 strong and in mint condition. They were all asleep but a brilliant visual.

The highlight of the morning was when I trusted my intuition and waited on river road for a 50 head strong elephant herd to come back from their drink in the sabie river. Suddenly we had the entire herd mobile towards us on a downhill which was spectacular considering they were all darkened wet and bunched together! It was a top class morning!

The afternoon drive was very relaxing but rather quiet however the sunset was super spectacular!

We look forward to tomorrow!

11 September 2014

Today we were extremely lucky picking up 4 of the 5 before 8am only missing leopard which eluded us for the rest of the day!

Two other interesting sightings were a Southern ground hornbill devouring a tortoise and a 1m Mozambique spitting cobra.

Herds of giraffe and zebra were seen in abundance and 6 different raptor species were spotted.

The guests thoroughly enjoyed being mock charged buy a juvenile male elephant with attitude just before sunset.

More coming soon!!
