Todays first top sighting was literally the first species seen which was a beautiful male Leopard surveying the savannah from a large Leadwood tree!! Incredibly so we had this beauty for ourselves for 20 minutes as most vehicles chose an alternative route!! The large male literally stretched and yawned several times allowing for perfect photos!!!

Within 25 minutes there were 30 plus vehicles at the scene so we moved off!

Later in the day our second best location occurred near Matekenyane hill where we came across a mating Lion pair!

The Lioness however showed zero interest in her male when we were there and at one stage literally attacked the keen big male in mid air when he tried to mate allowing yet again for incredible photos for our very enthusiastic Israeli guests!

On a day where all 3 super predators of Kruger were spotted i.e. 1)Lion 2)Hyena and 3) Leopard we also saw a solitary female Wild dog who was busy trying to den her new born pups which we unfortunately couldn’t get a glimpse of!!

Elephant and Buffalo herds were prolific as well as general game!!

After an early breakfast and loading luggage we left on a short morning drive as our guests were leaving today. The morning started off well with a 3 very large and grumpy looking old Buffalo bulls.

We then received word of a Leopard in the area and made our way to were it was spotted. Our luck was in, as it was still lying on a rock, fairly distant but out in the open; a large male soaking up the early morning sun through the wispy cloud cover!

Then more luck as we also found 3 lionesses basking on top of a nearby rocky outcrop - a brilliant end to a short and sweet Safari!

It was then time to bid farewell to Cesar and Sarah and welcome 5 new guests, also New Yorkers!

After checking in we went out on afternoon drive and got lucky, finding the same 3 lionesses, but by now it was time for them to wake up and start moving around. We had a brilliant sighting as they woke up, stretching, yawning and lazily playing around on the rocks, before getting down very close to us and playing around in the grass before setting off to wherever it was their instincts told them for their nightly prowl, a fitting end to a great day on Safari!

My two Argentinean guests and I headed out early on our first drive together from Numbi gate.

The morning started out a bit cold but nothing could have warmed us up as much as a clan of hyenas in the road with a few tiny brown coated babies investigating with mom and sniffing our vehicle. After coming to the conclusion that the safari vehicle is not edible they moved along. Not far down the road we were welcomed by a wonderful sunrise with giraffes and our favorite sighting of the day a big herd of sable crossing the road and grazing nearby.

Later we visited a Dam in the area and got a peak at hippos getting out of the water to lie down on the sand bank and warm up.

Because the day wasn’t so warm yet they were able to enjoy 2 lionesses in the open doing what they do best sleeping close to the road blissfully unaware of us sitting watching them.

The afternoon drive we found some Elephants whom we watched while busy being their destructive self and pushing over trees.

Impalas were everywhere to be seen with Red billed oxpeckers on their back removing ticks.

All in all our first day was very rewarding.

Today we planned on doing a different area of the park and drive around the Sabie and Sand river in hope to find a few water birds and crocs.

We managed to find a lot of both. We got a few Crocodiles, a Grey heron, Galiath heron, Wooly necked stalk and the best allot of Marabou Storks which was also the last of the ugly five for us to find.

Baboons and Vervet Monkey entertained us for hours playing, fighting and sorting out family disputed while in Weaping Boebeans eating the seeds and new growths.

Our day ended with a Mother and Calf White rhino grazing along which was very special with the species rapid decline.

We checked out of camp and after breakfast started our last drive as a team.

Everything on our last drive was just the cherry on the cake, from elephants to zebras to waterbuck, reedbuck and kudus everywhere but what we didn’t expect was the Leopard resting on a big rock overlooking his territory. And more not even 500m further, on Napi Boulders 3 lions we lying under a bush.

All in all we didn’t expect much and were rewarded to with soo much. Taking our time looking at little Blue Headed Agamas to Steenboks not just chasing after big species. Which is the key to coming on a safari.

27 September 2016

Today we started a one-night safari with Sarah and Cesar from New York. After arrival and checking in to the lodge we left for an afternoon Game drive during which we saw a good variety of general game.

One of the highlights was definitely a large bull Sable Antelope, which we found by himself, grazing fairly close to the road. He offered some good views and picture opportunities and looked very majestic with his jet-black coat and large curved horns!

Another highlight of the afternoon came shortly before closing time, when we encountered 2 female Spotted Hyena with their cubs of about 4 - 5 months old respectively. 3 of the cubs were tugging at leftovers of a carcass outside the den, while the other was nursing from one of the adult females out in the open and very relaxed; ending our afternoon drive on a special note!
